Students and collaborators

Work with me

I welcome high school students, undergraduates, master's students, PhD students, postdocs, and collaborators who want to work on statistical methods for incomplete data and health applications. The Research page lists current projects. The values below describe how the team works.

01

Curiosity

Curiosity comes first. Broad, general ideas are welcome, especially in a field where publishing moves fast. Curiosity leads to questions that matter to society, and good questions lead to insightful answers.

02

Correctness and truth

Work does not get rushed to publication. Published results shape later research, and decisions may follow from them. Each project takes the time needed to be correct, and difficult questions deserve answers of the highest quality.

03

Learning and compassion

The team keeps a learning mindset. Compassion goes in two directions: toward ourselves during the learning process, and toward the people we do research with.

04

Growth

Every project looks for ways to grow. Feedback, stronger writing, and higher-quality work are part of the routine. Growth connects to learning, with a sharper focus on feedback and craft.

05

Openness about AI

AI tools are here to stay, so the team states how each tool gets used. Together, we decide where the tools help, which answers can be trusted, and where to move carefully.

Interested in working together?

I do not currently have funding for student positions, so projects are unpaid and built around learning and, when contributions warrant, co-authorship. Please tell me about your background, your interests, and what you hope to learn.

Please email me at jvazqu18 [at] jh.edu with your CV/resume and a short note about your interests.
